Microsoft Forms vs Google Forms, and a free third option

By the Qwenvo team · · 3 min read

Choose Microsoft Forms if your team lives in Microsoft 365, and Google Forms if it lives in Google accounts. Both are free with an account and both do quizzes. If you need payments, branding or file uploads from anyone, Qwenvo is a free third option.

What each one is

  • Microsoft Forms: free with a Microsoft account and part of Microsoft 365. It has quizzes and works best inside Microsoft tools.
  • Google Forms: free with a Google account. It has a quiz mode with grading, no built-in payments, requires respondents to sign in with Google to upload files, and offers limited design and branding.
  • Qwenvo: free for everyone with no paid plans. Document-style editor, payments through your own Stripe account, file uploads up to 1 GB, custom domains and AI triage.

We list only what each vendor states. For details on Microsoft Forms, see forms.office.com; for Google Forms, the Google Forms page.

How to decide in one minute

  1. Where do your people already sign in? Microsoft account: Microsoft Forms. Google account: Google Forms. Neither or both: use something neutral.
  2. Who answers? Staff or students inside your organisation: either works. The public, customers or applicants: a form that needs no account is safer.
  3. Do you collect money or signatures? Google Forms has no built-in payments, and we have not verified payment features for Microsoft Forms, so check them. Qwenvo has a Payment block and a Signature block.
  4. Does it need to look like your brand? Google Forms is limited. On Qwenvo you set colours, fonts, layout, a logo, a cover and custom CSS.
  5. Do you need analysis? Both collect responses. Qwenvo adds Insights, drop-off analytics and AI triage.

Typical situations

  • A school on Google Workspace: Google Forms for graded quizzes. For homework uploads from anyone, see the education guide.
  • A company on Microsoft 365: Microsoft Forms for internal polls and staff surveys.
  • A small business with a public website: a neutral tool with payments and a custom domain. Start from the order form or the contact form.
  • A club or non-profit: whichever tool the volunteers already log in to, unless you need to take donations or fees, in which case use Qwenvo.

What Qwenvo adds to either

  • Show or hide questions, jump to pages, and calculated fields for prices and scores.
  • Embeds for any site builder: Standard, Popup and Full page.
  • Unlimited teammates, workspaces and folders.
  • A Submissions table with CSV, JSON and XLSX exports, per-submission PDFs, and sends to Google Sheets, Notion, Airtable, Slack and more.
  • A 90-day version history and an audit log.

Qwenvo has no Google Forms or Microsoft Forms importer. Paste the questions in as text, or describe them to the AI. See the free Google Forms alternative guide.

Where the others are still the better pick

If everyone already has the account and the form is internal, the built-in option in your suite is the easiest. Qwenvo launched in October 2026, is hosted in the United States and has no mobile app.

A simple test for a tie

If both look equally good for your team, run a ten-minute test. Build the same five-question form in each tool. Share it with two colleagues, one on a phone and one on a laptop. Then look at three things: how long the build took, whether anyone hit a sign-in screen they did not expect, and how easy it was to get the answers into the place you actually work, such as a spreadsheet or a chat channel.

Add Qwenvo as the third entrant if any of those answers worry you. It takes about the same time to build, nobody needs an account to answer, and you can send rows to Google Sheets, Notion, Airtable or Slack, or export CSV and XLSX.
