Free survey maker for students: run a class survey that works

By the Qwenvo team · · 3 min read

Students can make a free survey on Qwenvo by writing the questions, publishing, and sharing one link. Respondents need no account, you see charts and averages in Insights, and you export CSV or XLSX for your report. Start with your research question, not with the tool.

Start with the question you want answered

A survey for a class project goes wrong when it collects data nobody can use. Before you open the editor, write one sentence: "I want to find out whether ___ differs between ___ and ___." Every survey question should help answer that sentence. If it does not, cut it.

Write questions people can answer

  • Ask one thing at a time. "How satisfied are you with the cafeteria food and prices?" is two questions.
  • Use choices where you can. Multiple choice, Dropdown and Linear scale give you numbers to count. Save open answers for the one or two things you want in people's own words.
  • Keep the scale the same. If you use 1 to 5 once, use 1 to 5 everywhere, with the labels shown.
  • Avoid leading wording. "Do you agree the new schedule is a disaster?" tells people what to say.
  • Keep it short. A survey that takes two minutes gets more complete answers than one that takes ten.

Build it step by step

  1. Create a free account. You do not need a credit card.
  2. Start blank, describe the survey to the AI on the empty-form screen, or edit the market research survey template.
  3. Add a short intro Text block: who you are, what the survey is for, how long it takes, and whether answers are anonymous.
  4. Put easy questions first and demographics (year group, subject) last, and only ask the ones you need.
  5. Switch on the Progress bar in Settings if the survey has several pages.
  6. Use a thank-you page that says thanks and, if you like, shows where results will be shared.
  7. Take the survey yourself, then ask a friend to take it and tell you what confused them.

Share it and get answers

Open the Share tab and copy the public link. Post it in the group chat, a class channel or an email. Because respondents need no sign-in, more people finish. Set Close form on a scheduled date so the survey ends when your data collection does, and keep an eye on the count in Submissions.

Make results you can put in a report

  • Insights gives charts, averages and NPS for each question, which you can screenshot for slides.
  • Export CSV or XLSX and open it in Excel or Sheets for your own charts and calculations.
  • Google Sheets integration sends each response into a spreadsheet as it arrives.
  • Drop-off analytics shows where people quit, which is useful to mention if your response rate is low.

Be careful and honest about the data

  • If you do not need names, do not ask for them. A survey with no name or email field is easier to keep anonymous.
  • Check your school's rules before surveying people under 18, or collecting anything sensitive. Your teacher can tell you whether a form is needed.
  • Say how many people answered and how you found them. A survey of your own friends is a convenience sample, and that is fine if you say so.
  • Do not claim more than the data shows. A chart of 25 answers describes those 25 people.

An honest limit

Qwenvo collects and charts answers. It does not run significance tests or write your analysis. If your teacher expects statistics, export the data and use your course software. And if your whole class lives in Google accounts and you only need five quick questions, Google Forms is already there. Qwenvo is the better pick when you want no sign-in for respondents and a design you control.
