Best free online form builder with payments (fees compared)

By the Qwenvo team · · 3 min read

The best free form builder with payments is one that takes money through your own payment account and adds no platform fee of its own. Qwenvo and Tally both work through Stripe and add no fee on top of Stripe's. Jotform supports more processors, including PayPal. Disclosure: we make Qwenvo, so it is listed first.

What to compare when money is involved

Every tool charges a processor fee through Stripe or PayPal. What differs is everything around it:

  1. Platform fee. Does the form builder take a cut on top of the processor?
  2. Which processors, since customers in some regions prefer PayPal or other methods.
  3. Payments on the free plan, or locked behind a paid one?
  4. Order logic. Can the amount change with quantity and options?
  5. Where the money goes. Your own account, paid out to you directly.

At a glance

  • Qwenvo: Payment block via your own Stripe account; 0% Qwenvo platform fee; many currencies; Stripe only.
  • Tally: payments on the free plan; no fee on top of Stripe.
  • Jotform: Stripe, PayPal and many processors; free Starter plan has limits.
  • Fillout: free plan with 1,000 responses a month; check its pricing page for payment features.
  • Google Forms: no built-in payments.

1. Qwenvo

Best for: order forms, deposits, pre-orders and paid registrations. Connect your own Stripe account, add a Payment block with /, and let a calculated field set the amount from quantities and options. Qwenvo takes 0%; Stripe's own fee applies.

Good templates to adapt: order form, digital product pre-order, merch pre-order and conference registration. The full walkthrough is in the Stripe payment form guide.

Watch out for: Stripe is the only provider. If your customers expect PayPal, UPI-style methods or local processors, Qwenvo cannot take those today.

2. Tally

Best for: simple payment forms from an editor you already like. Payments are on the free plan, and Tally adds no fee on top of Stripe. See its payment forms help.

Watch out for: the badge and custom domain require Pro, $29 a month, so a polished paid checkout can end up costing a plan. Our look at fees: Tally form fees.

3. Jotform

Best for: shops that need PayPal or one of its many other processors, and teams that want a mobile app. Watch out for: the free Starter plan has form and submission limits and Jotform branding. Check Jotform's pricing.

4. Fillout

Best for: payment forms that sync into Airtable or Notion. Watch out for: the free response cap of 1,000 a month, which a busy launch can hit. See Fillout pricing.

5. Google Forms

Best for: nothing payment-related. It has no built-in payments, so people link out to a payment page, which breaks the flow. It is on the list because it is the tool people are leaving; see Google Forms alternatives with payments.

A payment form checklist

  • Test with Stripe's test mode before going live.
  • State the price, the currency and the refund terms above the Payment block.
  • Turn on confirmation emails so buyers get a record.
  • Close the form on a date or after a number of responses if stock is limited.
  • Send each paid order to Slack or a spreadsheet with an integration.

Where the others are better

Jotform wins on processor choice and template variety. If your buyers must pay by PayPal, it is the straight answer.

Pricing patterns you can build

  • A fixed price: one product, one Payment block.
  • Quantity times price: a Number question and a calculated field for the total.
  • Options with add-ons: Checkboxes whose choices add to the total.
  • A deposit: charge a fixed share now and collect the rest another way.
  • Tiered tickets: a Multiple choice question that sets the amount.

In every case, show the total on the page before the Payment block so the buyer is never surprised.
