SurveyMonkey alternatives for education: free tools for schools

By the Qwenvo team · · 3 min read

For schools and universities, Qwenvo is a free SurveyMonkey alternative with ready templates for course evaluations, student feedback and wellbeing check-ins. Students answer from a link with no account, results export to a spreadsheet, and data retention can delete responses automatically.

What education surveys need

SurveyMonkey's free plan limits responses and features, and we have not verified its current numbers; its pricing page has them. For a department running termly surveys across many classes, limits like that are what matter. The checklist below applies to any tool you consider.

  • Can every student respond without creating an account?
  • Is there a cap on responses that a large cohort could reach?
  • Can you control how long you keep the data?
  • Can colleagues share and edit the same surveys?
  • Can you export results to a spreadsheet for analysis?

How Qwenvo answers that checklist

  • No student account. Anyone with the link can respond.
  • No response cap. Unlimited forms and submissions, with a fair use policy for extreme volume.
  • Retention. The form Settings include data retention, which auto-deletes after N days.
  • Team. Unlimited teammates, workspaces and folders, so a department shares one workspace.
  • Export. CSV, JSON and XLSX, plus Google Sheets and Notion integrations.
  • Languages. The interface supports 45+ languages including right-to-left ones.

Templates to start from

Run an end-of-term survey

  1. Sign up and open the course evaluation template.
  2. Cut it to the questions you will act on. Keep it to a few minutes to complete.
  3. Use a Rating or Linear scale for teaching and materials, and one Long answer for suggestions.
  4. Add a hidden field named course and send each class its own link, so results split by course without asking students.
  5. In Settings, add a progress bar, set the form to close on the last day of the window, and set data retention.
  6. After the window, open Insights for averages, then export the rest.

Handle sensitive answers carefully

Wellbeing and accommodation forms hold personal details. Ask for the minimum, restrict who can open the results with workspace members (see members), turn on data retention, and use the audit log to see who exported or changed what. Check your institution's rules on student data before you use any external tool, because Qwenvo is hosted in the United States and is not a certified school system.

AI triage can read open answers and flag urgent or negative ones for a human to follow up. It suggests; staff decide. For a student wellbeing form, treat any flag as a prompt to check in, never as a diagnosis.

Where SurveyMonkey is still the better pick

If your institution already has a SurveyMonkey licence, a contract and approved procedures, staying with it saves paperwork. Qwenvo launched in October 2026, so it has few reviews and no track record in education yet. See also Google Forms for education.

Using results well

A survey only matters if something changes. Before you send one, decide who will read the results and when. For a course evaluation, the module lead might read Insights within a week, and the department might look at the exported spreadsheet at the end of term. For a wellbeing check-in, someone should read flagged responses the same day, because the point is a quick human follow-up.

Tell students what happened last time. A short line at the top of the form, such as what changed because of the previous survey, does more for response rates than a reminder email. If you export results, keep the file somewhere with the same access controls as the rest of your student records, and delete it when you no longer need it.
