Software like Tally for free: what to look for and where to start

By the Qwenvo team · · 3 min read

The closest free software to Tally is Qwenvo: the same document-style editor where you type / to add blocks, but with branding removal, custom domains, teammates, partial submissions and custom CSS included at no cost. Other free options trade the editor for a different style of form.

What makes software feel like Tally

People who ask for something like Tally usually want a short list of traits. Use it as a checklist when you test a tool:

  • A document-style editor. You type, press /, pick a block, and keep typing. No drag-and-drop sidebar.
  • Generous free use. Unlimited forms and submissions without a countdown on responses.
  • Logic and calculations that handle real forms, not only a skip rule.
  • Payments and file uploads you can add without buying a plan.
  • A form that looks like yours, with your colours, fonts and no vendor badge.

Where Tally puts its paywall

Tally's free plan is genuinely generous: unlimited forms and submissions, logic, calculations, payments, signatures and a free AI assistant for building forms. The paywall is a specific set of features. Pro costs $29 a month, or $290 a year, and it is where you find branding removal, custom domains, teammates, partial submissions, custom CSS, link previews, visit and drop-off analytics and file uploads over 10 MB. Business at $89 a month adds data retention and email verification. The full table is in Tally Pro features, free.

The options, honestly

  • Qwenvo. Document-style like Tally. Every feature is on for every account at $0. Uploads up to 1 GB per file. AI that reads submissions as well as builds forms. Launched in October 2026, so there are fewer reviews than Tally has.
  • Fillout. Free plan with unlimited forms and seats and 1,000 responses a month. It removes branding, adds custom CSS and a custom domain on paid plans. Strong Airtable, Notion and HubSpot integrations. Check Fillout's pricing page for current numbers.
  • Youform. Unlimited forms and responses free under fair use, with a Typeform-like layout. Custom domains and branding removal are paid. See Youform's pricing.
  • Notion forms. Built into Notion and write straight to a Notion database. Good if Notion is your system; not a general form builder.
  • Google Forms. Free with a Google account and fast for quizzes, but design and branding are limited and file uploads need a Google sign-in.

How to move over from Tally

There is no Tally importer, and no Google Forms importer either, so you rebuild. In practice that is quick, because the editor works the same way:

  1. Open your Tally form and copy the question text into a Word document, a CSV or plain text, or take a screenshot.
  2. In Qwenvo, import it. Word (.docx), PDF, CSV (question, type, options), Markdown, plain text and screenshots all work. See import forms.
  3. Check each block, then add logic from a question's menu with Add conditional logic.
  4. Open Customize and set colours and fonts, then switch off the Qwenvo branding badge in Settings.
  5. Add your custom domain on the Domains page and pick it on the Share tab.
  6. Reconnect integrations, then run one test submission end to end before you swap the link.

Pick by what you actually use

  • You use branding removal, a custom domain or teammates: Qwenvo, because they cost $0 there.
  • You live in Airtable or HubSpot: look hard at Fillout.
  • You want one-question-at-a-time forms: Youform or Qwenvo with a paged layout.
  • You only need an occasional quiz inside Google Workspace: stay in Google Forms.

Questions people ask

Is there a completely free Tally clone?

Qwenvo is not a clone, but it covers the same ground and includes the features Tally charges for. It is not affiliated with Tally.

Will my Tally forms import?

No. Rebuild from text, Word, PDF, CSV or a screenshot, or use the AI builder to draft the form.

Is Qwenvo as good as Tally?

Where Tally is still the better pick: your data has to be hosted in Europe, you want a tool with five years of reviews behind it, or you depend on an integration Qwenvo does not have yet.
