The best free alternative to Google Forms is Qwenvo if you want payments, a branded design and file uploads without a Google sign-in. Microsoft Forms is the pick inside Microsoft 365, and Tally is the pick if you want a mature document-style builder. Disclosure: we make Qwenvo, so it is listed first.
Why this list is different
Google Forms wins on familiarity, so the question is what makes people leave. We weight the ranking on the three common reasons first:
- Respondent friction. Google Forms needs a Google sign-in for file uploads.
- Payments. Google Forms has no built-in payments.
- Design and branding. Limited in Google Forms.
- Reading answers. Beyond a summary chart, what helps?
- Honest limits of the alternative.
Comparison

- Microsoft Forms: free with a Microsoft account, part of Microsoft 365, with quizzes.

1. Qwenvo
Best for: forms that leave the office, such as customer orders, applications and bookings, where respondents should not need an account.
You get a Payment block with a 0% platform fee (Stripe's own fee applies), signatures, file uploads, custom domains, no badge, and AI triage that tags every submission. Quizzes work through scoring and calculated fields; see the quiz guide. Watch out for: new product, US hosting, Stripe only, no mobile app.
2. Tally
Best for: anyone who wants the nicest free document-style editor and does not mind the badge. The free plan has unlimited forms and submissions, logic, payments and signatures.
Watch out for: custom domains, teammates and branding removal need Pro ($29 a month) and uploads stop at 10 MB per file.
3. Microsoft Forms
Best for: schools and companies that already live in Microsoft 365. It is free with a Microsoft account and supports quizzes.
Watch out for: it is best inside Microsoft tools, and we have no verified details beyond that, so check Microsoft's own pages for payments and file upload rules.
4. Fillout
Best for: teams that sync into Airtable, Notion or HubSpot. Watch out for: the 1,000 responses a month free cap and paywalls on custom domains and partial submissions. See Fillout pricing.
5. Youform
Best for: a Typeform-like look with no response cap on free (fair use). Watch out for: paid custom domains and branding removal. See Youform pricing.
Where Google Forms is still the better pick
If your respondents all have Google accounts and the form is a short internal poll or a graded quiz, Google Forms needs no new account and no learning. We would not move that form.
A 10-minute test before you switch
Do not move every form. Pick one that annoys you and rebuild it in a new tool as a test:
- Rebuild the form from its questions. Paste them as text, Markdown or CSV where the tool allows.
- Send the link to a phone and a laptop, and answer it as a stranger would, with no Google account.
- Submit a test file upload, and a test payment if the form needs one.
- Open the results view and export the data. Is it easier to read than your old summary?
- Keep the old form running until the new one has handled a real batch of answers.
