Free Quiz Maker With Scoring: Build a Graded Quiz in Minutes

By the Qwenvo team · · 3 min read

To build a quiz with scoring, add your questions, then add a conditional logic block that uses Calculate to add points when an answer is correct. Show the total on the thank-you page by mentioning the score variable with @. Qwenvo does this free.

How the scoring works

There is no separate quiz mode. A quiz is a form with a number that goes up when people answer correctly. That number is a calculated variable, and you can display it anywhere with @. The benefit is flexibility: weighted questions, partial credit, bonus points and score bands are all rules.

Build it step by step

  1. Write the questions. Use Multiple choice or Dropdown for single answers, Checkboxes for multiple correct answers, and Short answer for typed answers.
  2. Add a name or email question first if you want to know who took the quiz.
  3. Type / and add a conditional logic block after the questions.
  4. Create a variable called score and start it at zero in the first rule.
  5. For each question, add a rule: When the answer is the right one, Then Calculate score plus the points you want.
  6. Add rules for score bands, such as showing a message when the score is above a threshold you choose.
  7. On the Thank-you page, write 'Your score: @score' and add the band message.
  8. Preview and answer the quiz all the right and all the wrong ways.

Put Calculated fields above the rules that change them. Rules replay from top to bottom on every answer change, and later rules win.

Templates to start from

Make a better quiz

  • Mix question types. Recall questions and choice questions test different things.
  • Order the questions on purpose. Put easy questions first so people build confidence.
  • Use multiple pages so people see one block of questions at a time, with a progress bar.
  • Give feedback. Use logic to show a short explanation after a question or on the results page.
  • Limit attempts with Prevent duplicate submissions when it matters.

See the results

Open Submissions to see each person's answers and the score, and export as CSV, JSON or XLSX for grading. Insights shows charts and averages for your questions, so you can see how answers are spread.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Skipping the test run. A rule with the wrong option marks everyone wrong.
  • Rule order. If the score is set to zero after the points are added, everyone scores zero.
  • High-stakes use. Anyone can open the form again or share the link. A quiz that decides grades or hiring needs more control than a form can give.
  • Exposing answers. Do not show correct answers if the quiz will be reused.

Where Google Forms is stronger: it has a built-in quiz mode with grading, which is quicker to set up for a simple classroom test. If you want custom score bands, calculations or a branded look, rules in Qwenvo give you more room.

A scoring layout to copy

Here is the structure of a ten-question quiz, as an example. Use your own question count and pass mark:

// Example structure only
Rule 1: Calculate score = 0
Rule 2: When Q1 is the right answer -> Calculate score + 1
Rule 3: When Q2 is the right answer -> Calculate score + 1
... one rule per question ...
Rule N: When score >= PASS_MARK -> Show the 'Well done' text
Rule N+1: When score < PASS_MARK -> Show the 'Try again' text

Keep the score rule above the others, and keep the pass and fail messages as separate text blocks on the thank-you page, so only one shows.
