The best free form builder with conditional logic is one where show or hide rules, page jumps and calculated fields are all included without an upgrade. Qwenvo and Tally both put logic on the free plan; we compare five below. Disclosure: we make Qwenvo, so it is listed first, and logic depth for the others should be checked in their docs.
What good logic covers
Logic means the form reacts to answers. We judge it in four layers, from basic to advanced:
- Show or hide a question based on an earlier answer.
- Jump to a page, to skip sections or end the form early.
- Calculate: prices, totals and scores from answers.
- Reuse answers, such as greeting someone by name later in the form.
Then the question that decides daily use: is it a rule you can read at a glance, or a puzzle? We could only verify prices and free-plan facts for these tools, so treat our notes on logic depth as pointers, not test results.
At a glance
- Qwenvo: show/hide, jump to page, calculated fields, quizzes with scoring, answer piping with
@. All $0. - Tally: logic and calculations on the free plan.
- Fillout: free plan with unlimited forms and seats and 1,000 responses a month; check its docs for logic depth.
- Jotform: a large feature set; check its pricing page for what the free plan includes.
- Typeform: conversational format; limited responses on free; check its docs.
1. Qwenvo
Best for: forms where the path changes, such as intake, applications, quote calculators and quizzes. Add a rule from a question's menu with Add conditional logic, or type / and insert the Conditional logic block. Hidden fields carry values like a campaign tag, and calculated fields total a price or a score.
Example: in the client intake form, show a budget question only when someone chooses a paid service; in the quote request form, calculate an estimate from quantity and options. The conditional logic guide has more.
Watch out for: deep logic needs planning. Sketch the paths on paper first, and test every branch in the preview. See the help article.
2. Tally
Best for: people who like a minimal editor. Logic, calculations and payments are free. Watch out for: newcomers often find its hide-by-default model confusing.
3. Fillout
Best for: forms feeding Airtable, Notion or HubSpot. Watch out for: the 1,000 monthly response cap on free. See Fillout pricing.
4. Jotform
Best for: variety, from a huge template library to payments through many processors. Watch out for: free Starter limits and Jotform branding. Check Jotform's pricing.
5. Typeform
Best for: conversational forms where branching feels natural, one question at a time, and strong design. Watch out for: a free plan with limited responses, and paid plans from $39 a month. See Typeform pricing.
Logic mistakes to avoid
- Branching on a question people can skip. Make the controlling question required.
- Hiding a required question. Test that a hidden question never blocks someone from submitting.
- Too many branches. If a form has more than a few paths, split it into separate forms.
- Skipping the test. Click through every path in preview, with weird answers.
Where the others are better
Typeform's conversational feel makes branching read naturally, and Jotform has the widest template library to start from. Qwenvo launched in October 2026 and has fewer public reviews.
A worked example
Take a service enquiry form. The first question asks what the person needs, with three options. Choosing the first shows a short project brief and a budget question. The second jumps to a booking page. The third jumps to the thank-you page with a link to the FAQ. A hidden field records which page the visitor came from. A calculated field totals the quantity the customer chose. This is four kinds of logic in one short form, and on Qwenvo none of it needs a plan.
Questions people ask

Yes, logic is on Tally's free plan.
What is the difference between skip logic and conditional logic?
Skip logic jumps past questions or pages. Conditional logic is the broader idea: show, hide, jump or calculate based on answers.
Can logic work with payments?
On Qwenvo, a calculated field can set the amount a Payment block charges, via your own Stripe account.
